Dr. Jiaying Zhao is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Psychology and the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Zhao's work uses psychological principles to design behavioural solutions to address financial and environmental sustainability challenges.

  • What aspects of this research agenda are you most excited about?

I'm most excited about the collaboration between academics and public/private institutions to design and test solutions to solve important societal problems.

  • Of all the work you have done, what project / paper is your personal favourite and why?

My favorite project so far is the New Leaf Project because it demonstrated how effective a simple solution of cash transfers can be in addressing homelessness: https://forsocialchange.org/new-leaf-project-overview
